We are celebrating 20 years of business is workplace wellness.  This year we are looking back and looking forward to the workplace, trends and changes (also a few predictions).  What was the workplace like 20+ years ago and what might it be like in the future?

Obesity represents what % of overall health care spending?

Answer: 21%

 

29 percent of employers offered weight loss programs in 1996 what percent is offered in 2016?

Answer 31%

 

What's the best way for employers and employees to keep their healthcare spend down?

Answer: Prevention of chronic disease.  How? Increase employee access to professionals who can help them with healthy lifestyle and exercise.

 

FUTURE THOUGHT:   20 years ago, medical documentation on a computer was a rarity. Wouldn't it be great if you could just "think" your notes into the record.

 

How much have employers' health insurance premiums increased in the last 20 years?

Answer: over 180%

20 years ago, I got my first cell phone. It could barely make calls. Now it runs my life.  What year was the cell phone invented?

Answer: 1973

Motorola was the first company to produce a handheld mobile phone. On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive, made the first mobile telephone call from handheld subscriber equipment, placing a call to Dr. Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs his rival.

 

FUTURE THOUGHT:   Twenty years from now my cell phone will probably be implanted somehow and generate holographic images or something crazy.
