A COMPREHENSIVE CHECKLIST TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH THE HOUSEKEEPING MIPP STANDARDhousekeeping

With the passing of California’s Occupational Safety and Health Standards new Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention Plan (MIPP) requirement for hotel and motel housekeeping departments, many managers have been left with questions as to the specific responsibilities and requirements for properties in the state.

Ensure Compliance with a Free Checklist

The standard mandates a property write and implement a standalone MIPP for the housekeeping department that is designed specifically for the unique tasks required of employees within the department. But what exactly does a MIPP look like and where should property managers start when trying to comply?

To properly plan and implement, property managers need to understand what exactly is required of them to comply with the new legislation. The standard requires:

  • Identification of hazards and injuries for housekeeping staff
  • Conducting a comprehensive evaluation of each individual worksite
  • Offering staff and management training with hands-on practice opportunities
  • Including employees and their Union representatives in decision-making processes

Once management understands the basics of what must be addressed to comply, then property leadership can begin formulating a plan of action. To assist property managers in complying with the new standard, Briotix has put together a comprehensive checklist which can be used in the planning and implementation phases of the MIPP. If followed, the checklist will take company leadership through all components required by the standard ensuring compliance.
